Catering to Millennials? Tech-Savvy is What Hotels Need to be…

What is the “Millennial need” for the hospitality industry? In a 2018 report on travel, it was found that 97% of Millennials use social media while traveling and 75% post to social networks at least once per day.

Technology has evolved so much that Millennials are now booking vacations with voices. Technology is affecting the hospitality industry like how, and if the hospitality industry has to keep up with the demographic traits and demands of the new generation, it has to upgrade its strategy of providing hi-tech service.

Social media is creating a more authentic picture of an experience, and people want to see reality, not stock photos. Ironically, at the same time, we have artificial technology eliminating the need for human contact. A guest can now text via the hotel’s mobile app for room service, Alexa for Hospitality is being rolled out as an in-room concierge with Marriott International, and there’s facial recognition on Royal Caribbean cruise ships for speedier lines.

Millennials, instead of hoarding decades of travel photos in boxes or online albums, are now sharing their exclusive travel experiences and connections with their entire network in real time. This is turn influences people in their network to try out the same hotel to experience the same type of luxury themselves.

Millennials tend to be more experiential, aspirational travelers who crave authenticity. They’re drawn to more boutique, genuine outside the cookie-cutter experiences. Millennials today are self-sufficient, tech-savvy travelers who are comfortable using apps or mobile websites.

Hence, hotels would need to define their strategies to please them with easy check-in and gourmet dining experiences, hi-tech room services at reasonable prices. Besides, hotels must be able to provide services in a multitude of languages, and tailored experiences properly suited to the culture and unique needs of their millennial visitors who come from diverse backgrounds.

Lastly, hotels will also need to provide seamless connectivity across varied hotel platforms and devices for an integrated experience. Many hotel groups are nowadays offering mobile check-in and digital concierge services. Guests are issued high-tech cards that detect their presence and unlock the door before they even reach it.

We can support you in becoming tech-savvy and more millennial-appealing by providing you with a voice-assisted hotel concierge system based on Amazon Alexa.
